Practical guide

After connectivity returns, verify reconciliation before discarding the fallback record

Last materially reviewed 2026-09-28

Quick answerA connection icon is a starting observation; confirm the event data and outstanding exceptions have been reconciled.
What to know

Name the recovery owner

The person who notices connectivity returning may not be responsible for deciding that normal operation resumes. Define that responsibility before the event. The owner should know which devices were disconnected, what alternative records were used and which cases remain uncertain. Do not erase paper notes or close the exception record merely because a device can load a page again. Preserve the information needed to understand the affected period.

What to know

Check the relevant event state

Ticket Tailor documents synchronization conditions for its check-in app. For your process, verify the intended event and active device state rather than assuming every background device has caught up. Record which observations support the return to normal. If two devices disagree, keep the discrepancy open for the authorized lead to investigate. A fresh connection does not retroactively prove every offline decision was consistent.

What to know

Reconcile without inventing history

Use the official records and the approved fallback notes to identify unresolved cases. Do not fabricate timestamps or mark people attended simply to make totals align. Where the evidence cannot establish an exact sequence, preserve that limitation in the report. The aim is a trustworthy account of what is known, not an immaculate-looking dashboard. Private attendee information should remain in the organization’s controlled records.

What to know

A fictional recovery note

Device D1 reconnects first, while D2 is still away from the network. The lead records recovery as partial and keeps the fallback active for the affected station. Once the relevant devices and exception records are reconciled, the lead communicates the new operating state. The final report distinguishes confirmed admissions from unresolved cases during the gap. This avoids treating the first recovered device as proof that the whole entrance system was synchronized.

Next: Reconcile attendance

Use one unit, one scope and mutually exclusive categories; a balanced sum does not prove the records are correct.
